KEVAN TAPLIN

... is part enigma , part myth , all legend.

As well as being an incredible songwriter and a witty, entertaining performer he is also an established poet of the Old Guard , a published novelist , has a degree in geology, was the Head of science & physics in secondary schools AND a producer of fine Olive Oils ... to name but a few.

He was born into a blue collar working-class background and grew up alongside the “White Heat” of Stevenage new town. After finishing Higher Education he then worked and travelled extensively in Africa and India.

He returned to college to obtain a degree in Geology, and still works with Keele University as Earth Science facilitator for East Anglia and has produced written resource materials for them.

KEVAN TAPLIN - Trouble In The Big House

It was in 2005 that he produced his first batch of olive oil from his grove in Puglia, which he transported back and bottled to sell and give as presents to family and friends. It is excellent for making bruschetta topped with tomato!

He has been a regular live performer for over twenty years , working previously with Steve Bennett in a highly regarded blues outfit called Front Porch - Bennett eventually went on to front a number of local bands including Bazooka Joe and Phondue, whilst Kevan Taplin went off to pursue an alternative career; this included writing poems and novels , appearing in comedy sketches on TV , and performing the occasional gig when he could spare the time.

The pair were to be reunited much later , approx 2006 , to record ‘ Trouble In The Big House’  as part of a 'poetry with music' series; recording some of Taplin’s published poems.
One direct outcome of this was a memorable appearance at the Sainsbury's Centre for Visual Arts, which included original work by Taplin as well as work by the Liverpool poets Mcgough and Henri whom Taplin had worked with briefly some years before.

Kevan’s music has received too much airplay over the last few years to list it all , but he has a particular affinity for West Norfolk Radio , who have always shown him such brilliant support.

He has been a regular at The A.I.R Events shows ever since the beginning , and still enjoys playing live with an unquenchable passion, and an enduring, endearing warmth.
