The ‘To Do…’ List Experience

How Do, Constant Viewer !
A few moments ago I finally got a few moments of peaceful ‘Me’ time and, whilst the burst of creative ideas was flowing, I quickly scrabbled together the basics of a To-Do list for the immediate future and beyond.  (Pictured)

It was an almost subconscious flow of thoughts; it would likely appear to be an innocuous little wish list to some but it got me to thinking about the innocuous little beginnings of The A.I.R Events, way back on the 7th of August 2018, in the rather squalid surroundings of the rundown The Blueberry Music House.
That night, after the first ever show of what turned out to be BOOMBOX, I went home and free wrote a 9 page ‘dossier’ of what I wanted to achieve from it - it included moving onto festivals, filming as many of the shows as possible, lots & lots of incremental moves and ideas that even led up to the point of dreaming of (somehow) tying in radio and Tv to give it all some uniqueness and/or somehow getting involved in a larger kind of festival scene.

I spoke about this ‘dossier’ at the time to people , even gave a print out of it to a local band (once what I was doing was proving successful) - but it probably seemed like a lot of pipe-dreaming from someone who had, then, only just come back to music after nearly 8 years away from it.

Of course the most avid of onlookers would have seen how that kernel of an idea, formed in a derelict & rundown music pub, turned out ….

It all built up after 49 consecutive weekly shows (and a glowing review in the Independent’s What’s On section) to residencies at The Brickmakers (locally) , and The Fiddlers Elbow (in Camden), it led to running multiple all-day festival stages and festivals in Norwich AND Ipswich, hosting events at larger capacity venues like Open & The John Peel centre, regularly playing cool local indie venues, producing & hosting radio shows, creating a Tv channel website during Covid to keep local band momentum high, organising a 3 day VIRTUAL FESTIVAL that was broadcast on the TV and TWO radio stations simultaneously… and, obviously, THAT legendary phone call from Glastonbury!

So, to start drawing this moment of calm & thoughtful retrospection & nostalgia to a meaningful close, let me end by saying this.
At the moment, having taken yet another long break from music AND the music scene  (although not as long as the previous 8 year hiatus!), I am conscious that I am starting utterly from the beginning ALL over again … which, if I’m honest, is fine with me - it was probably when I found the music the most fun, a little less complicated.
And then there’s the challenge of each day, each week, trying to somehow find a way to move forward on at least 1 of the things on the list - it certainly pushes you to explore outside of your comfort zone, that’s for sure.

The aim, now that I am feeling the love for music again and the TV Website is no longer laying dormant, is to start hitting things on that new list - and let’s just see where it goes, I guess.

In the meantime, it’s not just about what I am going to do - there is also the matter of what I have done so, very briefly, let me say a big thanks to JackDaniel for getting me to play at The Walnut Tree, and to Joe for getting me up at DEADWAX in Norwich (my new favourite venue!) - I have also completely finished the What’s On Guide for July and it also now includes OPEN MIC NIGHTS, yay!

That’s all for now, Constant Viewer - peace & chill
