This Scene Ain’t Dead

I feel it would probably be best to precursor this latest foray into the BTS’s of the East Anglian music scene by stating clearly that the following …. Tirade?… whistleblow?… (whatever you’d call it) isn’t aimed at any one specific person - rather it is a look at a worrying trend/culture within the scene that has persisted for generations, and still does today.

We have been made well aware over the years that, within the local music circuit, there is a contingent who feel that we should be the only local music entity not allowed to post their upcoming gigs or music videos into groups on social media that are designed for that very purpose and, despite the city centre of Norwich (as an e.g) being plastered with stickers and posters for lots of local live music nights, that posters/stickers for OUR music nights should not be allowed to blight the look of our beautiful grey lampposts or green electric utility boxes …

Although the inference may not have been blatantly apparent from those opening paragraphs, it should soon become clear that we are talking about a weird clique of inbred gatekeeper c***s who are perfectly happy to prevent local original bands from having decently-attended gigs - or even have gigs at all in some cases (there is a particular gig and grub guide active in Norwich that calls ahead to venues and tries to have gigs cancelled, because of their own personal dislike of a member or the group as a whole. I’m not even kidding about that - okay, so maybe this tirade does include one very specific c**t! ). There are also those who have leeched off the local talent simply to make a quick buck for themselves for a long long time, in some cases they have done so for the last 2, 3 or 4 decades.

But since THE A.I.R EVENTS’ humble  beginnings in the soon-to-be-condemned Blueberry Music House, complete with mismatched cobbled-together p.a equipment, a stage that had seen better days, and whole lot of D.I.Y ‘joie de vivre’,  the cliques have proceeded to panic, worry and/or talk & preach their hate to any gullible empty vessel that happens to listen to them - whilst they personally, nor any of their bands professionally, have ever progressed forward an inch in all that time.
No websites to promote their acts from, no online Tv stations to broadcast their bands globally, no live radio shows, no promotion at all for anyone outside of their own petty financial concerns, just a need to have a name on a poster and with very little progression for their stable of acts into the festival scenes, & certainly no phone calls from Glastonbury with the prospect of running a stage there for East Anglian artists.

But they DO talk a heck of a lot of s**t, for all of the mediocrity &  banality that they provide.

And this is mainly because, unlike the majority of those ‘haters’, The A.I.R Events have never been motivated by the prospect of making dumb money for quick financial gratification - instead we are motivated by actually progressing performers chances of success by promoting the hell out of all of the acts we host, and all while having a hell of a lot of fun in the process.

THE A.I.R EVENTS  and, by association, BOOMBOXtv were, and are, and always will be a continued threat to their persistent insidious efforts to devalue and minimise all Original Music in this region - but our local music lovers and fans are not stupid. The bubble of over-reliance on cringey tribute & cover acts can only last for so long before the music aficionados desire for great original music leads to a crack in the levee - and when all of that lovely grassroots and D.I.Y music comes flooding back into the region , THE A.I.R EVENTS aims to be one of the first who gets wet!
y’know?
